What Is Supervised Learning?

Supervised learning is the most straightforward machine learning approach: you provide the system with training data where each example includes both inputs and the correct answer (the label). The model learns the relationship between inputs and outputs, then applies this learned relationship to make predictions on new data it hasn't seen before.

Common supervised learning tasks include classification (predicting categories—is this email spam or not?) and regression (predicting numbers—what will the house price be?). The quality of supervised learning depends heavily on the quality and quantity of labeled training data. Collecting and labeling data can be expensive and time-consuming.

Supervised learning is powerful when you have clean labeled data and clear problems to solve. It's used in spam detection, medical diagnosis support systems, price prediction, credit risk assessment, and countless other applications where labeled historical data is available for training.
